Watching McCain's speech today,since I had better things to do last night, I am underwhelmed. He gives a nice narrative of his story, the old POW loves his country line, but other than that it's pretty hollow.
Here's the real McCain story. McCain started his military career at the botom of his class at the Naval Academy, his father, and Admiral got him a command position in the Navy. His flight instructors said he was one of the worst pilot they had ever trained, and he ended up failing gto act on a missile alert and got shot down over North Vietnam. He was held as a prisoner but ended up giving propaganda to the enemy. When he returned home he committed adultry and divorced his wife to marry a wealthy woman who opened the doors for his political career. He became embroiled in the Keating 5 banking scandal. Now he keeps switching his positions on everything from GI Bill funding to the approving the use of torture.
Not a pretty story, basically that of an opportunist who grabbed everything he could get and styled himself into whatever wold get him votes. Now at the advanced age of 72 he is trying tio reinvent himself, but he looks like a frail old grandfather next to his clueless running mate Sarah Palin.
I kept remembering his real story all the time I watched him spinning the McCain legend and I have to say he isn't convincing. He says he wants to change Washington, yet he has more years in Washington than his opponents. Why should we trust him now?
It would do everyone a service to remember where the word "mavrick" came from. It was the name of a rancher who refused to brand his cattle. He told folks it was because it was cruel to the animals, but the reality was he just wanted to round up any strays without brands and claim them as his. I guess McCain is a mavrick when you accept that definition!

Sarah Palin Extramarital Affair? National Enquirer Says Yes!
The National Enquirer is hardly a bastion of great journalism, however lately they have had the stories before anyone else. Their reporting of John Edwards affair scooped the other media outlets and went a long way toward giving them the "street cred" that "real" newspapers have.Now they have come up with a bit of dirt that could be explosive. The Enquirer reports that Sarah Palin had an extramarital affair with her husband's business partner.
So far the McCain camp is trying to dismiss the charge and has threatened a lawsuit. The Enquirer is sticking by it's story. Here is a statement made to the Huffington Post regarding the issue.
"The National Enquirer's coverage of a vicious war within Sarah Palin's extended family includes several newsworthy revelations, including the resulting incredible charge of an affair plus details of family strife when the Governor's daughter revealed her pregnancy. Following our John Edwards' exclusives, our political reporting has obviously proven to be more detail-oriented than the McCain campaign's vetting process. Despite the McCain camp's attempts to control press coverage they find unfavorable, The Enquirer will continue to pursue news on both sides of the political spectrum."They may be on to something real!

Sarah Palin looks very nice, she and her husband make a picturesque pair, and from the talking points of the Republicans, you'd think she was about as mainstream America as you can get. Not true.
Sara Palin is an extremist of the worst kind. She seeks to impose government controls on our private lives. Her politics is that of division and is antithetical to the American spirit. She opposes abortion and would make it illegal even in cases of rape. America has already voiced its opinion on this issue and the majority of Americans want to maintain a choice for women.
Palin wants "intelligent design" taught in our schools. She is out of step with America on this as well. Most Americans want real science taught to our young people so they can compete in the global marketplace. Palin's thinly disguised "creationism" is just trying to ram a Biblical narrative down our children's throats. It's bad science and worse theology.
Palin wants to ignore global warming. Her beliefs run counter to all the scientific evidence and that is an extreme and dangerous viewpoint for a person in the position of making public policy.

Texas Republican Platform - The Language Of Bigotry
I was going to write about the amazingly prejudiced 2008 Republican Party latform of the great state of Texas, but I simply cannot find the words. I will let the platform speak for itself. Here are three issues that will resonate with most of my readers.

Homosexuality – We believe that the practice of homosexuality tears at the fabric of society, contributes to the breakdown of the family unit, and leads to the spread of dangerous, communicable diseases. Homosexual behavior is contrary to the fundamental, unchanging truths that have been ordained by God, recognized by our country’s founders, and shared by the majority of Texans. Homosexuality must not be presented as an acceptable “alternative” lifestyle in our public education and policy, nor should “family” be redefined to include homosexual “couples.” We are opposed to any granting of special legal entitlements, refuse to recognize, or grant special privileges including, but not limited to: marriage between persons of the same sex (regardless of state of origin), custody of children by homosexuals, homosexual partner insurance or retirement benefits. We oppose any criminal or civil penalties against those who oppose homosexuality out of faith, conviction, or belief in traditional values.
Texas Sodomy Statutes - We oppose the legalization of sodomy. We demand that Congress exercise its authority granted by the U.S. Constitution to withhold jurisdiction from the federal courts from cases involving sodomy.

Republican Pundits Call Palin Choice "Political Bulls#@t"
When Republican pundits throw up their hands and declare "it's over" you have to wonder what is going on behind closed doors in the GOP. After an interview on MSNBC Peggy Noonan and Mike Murphy were caught on tape after the on-camera segment discussing the Palin nomination.
Noonan flatly says, "it's over", in referring to McCain's chances at the White House. She goes on to say the choice is "political bullshit" and Murphy calls the choice "cynical and gimmicky".

Sarah Palin, Sexism And Reality - If She Were A Man, McCain Would Be A Laughingstock
OK, so the McCain camp is already starting to fling charges of sexism around whenever anyone says anything about his VP Sarah Palin. Let me ask you this , and answer it honestly if you can, If McCain had picked Bob Palin, Governor of Alaska, what would your reaction be?
To be honest, if Palin was a man, McCain would already be laughed out of the GOP. The former mayor of a podunk town and half-term governor in one of the least populous states in the union is about as lame a choice as you can imagine. What if he had picked John Hoeven as his running mate?
John who? Well he is the Republican governor of North Dakota. The sad thing is John Hoeven has a masters degree from Dartmouth and a real history of brining prosperity to his state. He is in his second term and though he has experience, I feel sure he would be ridiculed for lack of it and considered a pretty lame choice for VP.
So why use kid gloves on Palin? This woman has a batchelors degree from the University of Idaho and her credentials include TV anchor in the micro=market of Anchorage and her time as mayor with a staff of less than 50 people.
Come on folks, we are all being sexist when we fail to criticize her as a viable choice. The test is changing the sex and then evaluating her qualifications. She would never get the job if she wasn't a she. So enough of this crap. McCain is insulting the entire country with this chlice and the sooner someone stands up and speaks the truth the better.

Dr. Laura Slams Palin As VP Pick
I am stunned that for once I agree with Dr. Laura. On her blog she wrote a scathing analysis of the McCain Vice Presidential pick, Alaska Governor Sarah Palin. Laura Schlessinger, known for her right wing views and occasional intolerant rants on gays and lesbians, feels McCain's pick is wrong on many levels.

Palin As Governor Vetos Money For Unwed Teenage Mothers
Here's another lesson in Family Values from Sarah Palin, McCain's pick for VP. As governor of Alaska, Palin line item vetoed funds for a program to help unwed teenage mothers during their first 18 months while they learn the basic skills needed to be a good parent. She cut funding from $5 million to $3.9 million with a stroke of a pen. She also cut the budget for the Fairbanks Community Food Bank in half, those funds would have bought upgrades to refrigeration equipment and computers for the social service organization.
Funny, those were not the kind of values my family raised me with.

More Hillary Supporters Move To Obama
For those worried that Hillary supporters would defect to the GOP the Gallup Poll has an interesting statistic. Prior to the Democratic Convention 70% of Hillary supporters said they would support Obama as the candidate of the Democratic Party. After the convention that number rises to 81%!
Obama's support now hits the 50% mark a full 8 points over McCain as of September 2. It remains to be seen if there is a post GOP convention bump for McCain.

Chrome Lacks A Few Features I Like
So like a good geek, I downloaded Google's new browser, "Chrome" this morning. After installing it and making sure there were no surprises included, like a Google Desktop, which I don't want, I started it up.
First impression. It's simple looking, so much so that there isn't even a home page button. That d confused me, but hey, I'm over 50! Next I finally figured out how to set my home page, which is an i-Google page anyway. It loaded fast, not so fast that I was overwhelmed, I use Firefox now and it was not so much faster that I saw a plus.
Next I tried going to the NOAA Hurricane Center. I was checking on the progress of Gustav, which just brought rain to our area of Texas this afternoon. I tried to load the satellite image loop and got a blank screen with a puzzle piece. The caption said, no plug-in available. Well I know that site uses Java, and if Google won't run Java, hey it's not getting my vote.
Next I looked for the familliar Ad-Blocker that is the feature I love on Firefox. Not there! Now there may have been those feature somewhere hidden in the overly simplified controls, but I sure couldn't find it. OK that was strike two for me. Unlike baseball, I only give players two strikes. So I uninstalled Chrome and will await the relase version to reevaluate it at that time.
My opinion. Nice try, needs work. Sticking with Firefox.

McCain Gets Testy - Cancels Larry King Interview Because CNN Asks Real Questions
The McCain camp pulled out of an interview with Larry King because CNN reporter Campbell Brown posed a really good question about Sarah Palin to Tucker Bounds. Brown was doing her job as a reporter and actually asking a good question, "what command experience does Palin have as Governor of Alaska?" Apparently that is too much for the GOP.

Like Nero fiddling while Rome burns, the Republicans in Minneapolis dressed in the wildest party clothes and boogied at a party thrown by the National Rifle Association, Lockheed Martin and the American Trucking Association. The event, held at a downtown night club featured the band "Hookers & Blow" and was hosted by former Tom DeLay aide Glenn LeMunyon.

With a theme of "America First" the DNC is going to really have to spin to explain Sarah Palin's husband's membership in the Alaska Independence Party. The stated goals of the group is succession from the US and formation of their own sovereign state self sufficient on oil revenues. McCain's Veracity & Judgment Called Into Question In NY Times Article
The McCain camp has big trouble. Today the New York Times wrote the article every other newspaper wanted to buts was afraid to print. McCains judgment seems to be sorely lacking in his pick of Sarah Palin. Most obvious is the complete lack of vetting of the candidate. From the mixed reports coming from the RNC she was vetted, but probably only on Google. Now GOP operatives and lawyers are swarming in her home town in Alaska trying to find the other skeletons in her closet.
Little details like Palin being a member of a fringe secessionist party in Alaska really point to the lack of information McCain had when he picked her. The Times article points out that McCain said the FBI investigated her in the vetting process, but the FBI does not normally do that for a VP candidate. According to the FBI in a statement in the article, "F.B.I. official said Monday the bureau did not vet potential candidates and had not known of her selection until it was made public."
So who do we believe? McCain or the FBI? Personally I trust the Feds more than a desperate candidate who is looking for a gimmick to win the election.

McCain's VP Has 17 Year Old Pregnant Unwed Daughter!
Lets talk about family values. Sarah Palin announced today that her 17 year old daughter is pregnant. She said in a stemet that she is proud of her daughter's decision to have the baby.
"We’re proud of Bristol's decision to have her baby and even prouder to become grandparents. As Bristol faces the responsibilities of adulthood, she knows she has our unconditional love and support.”
What they miught not be so proud of is the fact that she is not married. There was an additional announcement about the man she "will marry", which is Alaskan for "shotgun wedding".
It is interesting that she is proud of her for not having an abortion. I have to wonder how proud she is of her for getting pregnant in the first place, but maybe she was schooled in abstenence only as a method of birth control? Worked pretty good didn't it?
This will be the first VP nominee with a teenage daughter who is an unwed mother. Gotta love those kinds of family values!

Gustav Sights On New Orleans
I am watching the Weather Channel as the report from New Orleans on the landfall of Gustav. From the other web cams that are still online, the city is a ghost town. Luckily 95% of the residents have left because it looks like a real disaster coming soon.
I have been tracking Gustav since it was just a depression and consistently the forecast has shown the Louisiana cast as the prime target are for landfall. I guess the local authorities have been watching carefully this time as well. Levees are still not to the heights the Army Corps of Engineers recommended and in some places the flood walls are still unfinished. If the storm hits where it is expected to the flooding will come from the opposite direction of Katrina, meaning areas of the city that were relatively unscathed during the last storm will be victim this time.
I pray that the city survives. New Orleans is one of my favorite cities and a big part of the soul of the country. Without the Crescent City the South will be a pale shadow of itself.

“You know why? She had to make decisions,” Giuliani told Face The Nation anchor Bob Schieffer. “All Senator Obama has had to do is talk. That's all he does.”
I guess Obama's years as a State Senator and US Senator just can;t stack up with Palin's critical experience as the Mayor of a town of 6000?

McCain, Palin and Tokenism
I have been thinking a lot about McCain's choice for Vice President and I have to say I finally understand it. Carl Rove and his cronies who are running the McCain campaign made the call of picking Governor Palin as VP. McCain had only met the woman once before the announcement, so I seriously doubt it was his call.
Sarah Palin, though she is a lovely and intelligent woman falls into the same category as Alan Keyes. Keyes runs for President almost every year as a Republican in the primaries. Everyone knows he has no chance of gettig the nomination, but he does provide a service for the GOP. Keyes is African-American, and as such he puts a "diversity" spin on what has always be a "white guys club". Though I believe Mr. Keyes really believes he can get elected, the GOP looks on him as a convienent token. I suspect Mrs. Palin is filling the same role.
After all the complaits about experience levels and cheap shots at Obama for being a Junior Senator, it is inconcievable that the GOP would select a former mayor of a town of 9000 people and the Governor of Alaska for the past 20 months as the VP. The Vice President is a heartbeat away from the Presidency, and to put someone with so little experience in that position is both reckless and unfair. It is unfari to Sarah Palin, because she will be subjected to enormous scrutiny and pressure even if she isn't elected. It is reckless because having her as Commander in Chief is either a thoughtless choice, or an admission that the GOP machine will actually be running everything anyway.

They forget that Hillary Clinton was not popular just because she was a woman. She was an experienced and smart lawmaker who worked hard to develop her following. Sarah Palin is being used as a token. The GOP is assuming that women voters are so easily distracted by the thought of a female on the ticket that they will ignore everything else. They forget that Hillary Clinton was not popular just because she was a woman. She was an experienced and smart lawmaker who worked hard to develop her following. Part of her appeal was certainly because she was a woman, but had she not been a stellar candidate anyway, that wouldn't have gotten her beyond the first coule of primaries.
The cheap trick of having a token on the ticket shows a disrespect for the women voters of this country and though it might work on a few people blinded by her gender, it wil not work on the intelligent women voters in this country who understand that McCain is no friend to women's rights.

The short lists I saw for McCain's VP never included Sarah Palin and his choice has all the earmarks of a gimmick. Considering that she has virtually no experience in government, having been a city councilperson and a mayor prior to winning the Governorship of Alaska it will be tough to talk about experience from the GOP with this selection.
She is a woman, and that is the gimmick the GOP is counting on. If they are hoping to lure Hillary voters by putting an inexperienced beauty queen on the ticket, they might get a few who have no idea who they vote for anyway, but for a savvy thinking woman Sarah Palin is a ridiculous choice.
If this proves to be the actual VP selection for McCain, I hope people see through this disingenuous of this choice. He is obviously betting on his view that women cannot see beyond the issue of gender. Appearing next to one another, McCain looks like her grandfather, and in a debate with Joe Biden I think she will have no luck at all.

Tonight Barack Obama gave the best speech ever tonight. In it he simultaneously managed to blunt the GOP attacks and inspire a stadium of over 70,000 people to tears and bring them to their feet in cheers.

To Chairman Dean and my great friend Dick Durbin; and to all my fellow citizens of this great nation;
With profound gratitude and great humility, I accept your nomination for the presidency of the United States.
Let me express my thanks to the historic slate of candidates who accompanied me on this journey, and especially the one who traveled the farthest – a champion for working Americans and an inspiration to my daughters and to yours -- Hillary Rodham Clinton. To President Clinton, who last night made the case for change as only he can make it; to Ted Kennedy, who embodies the spirit of service; and to the next Vice President of the United States, Joe Biden, I thank you. I am grateful to finish this journey with one of the finest statesmen of our time, a man at ease with everyone from world leaders to the conductors on the Amtrak train he still takes home every night.
To the love of my life, our next First Lady, Michelle Obama, and to Sasha and Malia – I love you so much, and I’m so proud of all of you.
Four years ago, I stood before you and told you my story – of the brief union between a young man from Kenya and a young woman from Kansas who weren’t well-off or well-known, but shared a belief that in America, their son could achieve whatever he put his mind to.
It is that promise that has always set this country apart – that through hard work and sacrifice, each of us can pursue our individual dreams but still come together as one American family, to ensure that the next generation can pursue their dreams as well.
That’s why I stand here tonight. Because for two hundred and thirty two years, at each moment when that promise was in jeopardy, ordinary men and women – students and soldiers, farmers and teachers, nurses and janitors -- found the courage to keep it alive.
We meet at one of those defining moments – a moment when our nation is at war, our economy is in turmoil, and the American promise has been threatened once more.
Tonight, more Americans are out of work and more are working harder for less. More of you have lost your homes and even more are watching your home values plummet. More of you have cars you can’t afford to drive, credit card bills you can’t afford to pay, and tuition that’s beyond your reach.
These challenges are not all of government’s making. But the failure to respond is a direct result of a broken politics in Washington and the failed policies of George W. Bush.
America, we are better than these last eight years. We are a better country than this.
This country is more decent than one where a woman in Ohio, on the brink of retirement, finds herself one illness away from disaster after a lifetime of hard work.
This country is more generous than one where a man in Indiana has to pack up the equipment he’s worked on for twenty years and watch it shipped off to China, and then chokes up as he explains how he felt like a failure when he went home to tell his family the news.
We are more compassionate than a government that lets veterans sleep on our streets and families slide into poverty; that sits on its hands while a major American city drowns before our eyes.
Tonight, I say to the American people, to Democrats and Republicans and Independents across this great land – enough! This moment – this election – is our chance to keep, in the 21st century, the American promise alive. Because next week, in Minnesota, the same party that brought you two terms of George Bush and Dick Cheney will ask this country for a third. And we are here because we love this country too much to let the next four years look like the last eight. On November 4th, we must stand up and say: “Eight is enough.”
Now let there be no doubt. The Republican nominee, John McCain, has worn the uniform of our country with bravery and distinction, and for that we owe him our gratitude and respect. And next week, we’ll also hear about those occasions when he’s broken with his party as evidence that he can deliver the change that we need.
But the record’s clear: John McCain has voted with George Bush ninety percent of the time. Senator McCain likes to talk about judgment, but really, what does it say about your judgment when you think George Bush has been right more than ninety percent of the time? I don’t know about you, but I’m not ready to take a ten percent chance on change.
The truth is, on issue after issue that would make a difference in your lives – on health care and education and the economy – Senator McCain has been anything but independent. He said that our economy has made “great progress” under this President. He said that the fundamentals of the economy are strong. And when one of his chief advisors – the man who wrote his economic plan – was talking about the anxiety Americans are feeling, he said that we were just suffering from a “mental recession,” and that we’ve become, and I quote, “a nation of whiners.”
A nation of whiners? Tell that to the proud auto workers at a Michigan plant who, after they found out it was closing, kept showing up every day and working as hard as ever, because they knew there were people who counted on the brakes that they made. Tell that to the military families who shoulder their burdens silently as they watch their loved ones leave for their third or fourth or fifth tour of duty. These are not whiners. They work hard and give back and keep going without complaint. These are the Americans that I know.
Now, I don’t believe that Senator McCain doesn’t care what’s going on in the lives of Americans. I just think he doesn’t know. Why else would he define middle-class as someone making under five million dollars a year? How else could he propose hundreds of billions in tax breaks for big corporations and oil companies but not one penny of tax relief to more than one hundred million Americans? How else could he offer a health care plan that would actually tax people’s benefits, or an education plan that would do nothing to help families pay for college, or a plan that would privatize Social Security and gamble your retirement?
It’s not because John McCain doesn’t care. It’s because John McCain doesn’t get it.
For over two decades, he’s subscribed to that old, discredited Republican philosophy – give more and more to those with the most and hope that prosperity trickles down to everyone else. In Washington, they call this the Ownership Society, but what it really means is – you’re on your own. Out of work? Tough luck. No health care? The market will fix it. Born into poverty? Pull yourself up by your own bootstraps – even if you don’t have boots. You’re on your own.
Well it’s time for them to own their failure. It’s time for us to change America.
You see, we Democrats have a very different measure of what constitutes progress in this country.
We measure progress by how many people can find a job that pays the mortgage; whether you can put a little extra money away at the end of each month so you can someday watch your child receive her college diploma. We measure progress in the 23 million new jobs that were created when Bill Clinton was President – when the average American family saw its income go up $7,500 instead of down $2,000 like it has under George Bush.
We measure the strength of our economy not by the number of billionaires we have or the profits of the Fortune 500, but by whether someone with a good idea can take a risk and start a new business, or whether the waitress who lives on tips can take a day off to look after a sick kid without losing her job – an economy that honors the dignity of work.
The fundamentals we use to measure economic strength are whether we are living up to that fundamental promise that has made this country great – a promise that is the only reason I am standing here tonight.
Because in the faces of those young veterans who come back from Iraq and Afghanistan, I see my grandfather, who signed up after Pearl Harbor, marched in Patton’s Army, and was rewarded by a grateful nation with the chance to go to college on the GI Bill.
In the face of that young student who sleeps just three hours before working the night shift, I think about my mom, who raised my sister and me on her own while she worked and earned her degree; who once turned to food stamps but was still able to send us to the best schools in the country with the help of student loans and scholarships.
When I listen to another worker tell me that his factory has shut down, I remember all those men and women on the South Side of Chicago who I stood by and fought for two decades ago after the local steel plant closed.
And when I hear a woman talk about the difficulties of starting her own business, I think about my grandmother, who worked her way up from the secretarial pool to middle-management, despite years of being passed over for promotions because she was a woman. She’s the one who taught me about hard work. She’s the one who put off buying a new car or a new dress for herself so that I could have a better life. She poured everything she had into me. And although she can no longer travel, I know that she’s watching tonight, and that tonight is her night as well.
I don’t know what kind of lives John McCain thinks that celebrities lead, but this has been mine. These are my heroes. Theirs are the stories that shaped me. And it is on their behalf that I intend to win this election and keep our promise alive as President of the United States.
What is that promise?
It’s a promise that says each of us has the freedom to make of our own lives what we will, but that we also have the obligation to treat each other with dignity and respect.
It’s a promise that says the market should reward drive and innovation and generate growth, but that businesses should live up to their responsibilities to create American jobs, look out for American workers, and play by the rules of the road.
Ours is a promise that says government cannot solve all our problems, but what it should do is that which we cannot do for ourselves – protect us from harm and provide every child a decent education; keep our water clean and our toys safe; invest in new schools and new roads and new science and technology.
Our government should work for us, not against us. It should help us, not hurt us. It should ensure opportunity not just for those with the most money and influence, but for every American who’s willing to work.
That’s the promise of America – the idea that we are responsible for ourselves, but that we also rise or fall as one nation; the fundamental belief that I am my brother’s keeper; I am my sister’s keeper.
That’s the promise we need to keep. That’s the change we need right now. So let me spell out exactly what that change would mean if I am President.
Change means a tax code that doesn’t reward the lobbyists who wrote it, but the American workers and small businesses who deserve it.
Unlike John McCain, I will stop giving tax breaks to corporations that ship jobs overseas, and I will start giving them to companies that create good jobs right here in America.
I will eliminate capital gains taxes for the small businesses and the start-ups that will create the high-wage, high-tech jobs of tomorrow.
I will cut taxes – cut taxes – for 95% of all working families. Because in an economy like this, the last thing we should do is raise taxes on the middle-class.
And for the sake of our economy, our security, and the future of our planet, I will set a clear goal as President: in ten years, we will finally end our dependence on oil from the Middle East.
Washington’s been talking about our oil addiction for the last thirty years, and John McCain has been there for twenty-six of them. In that time, he’s said no to higher fuel-efficiency standards for cars, no to investments in renewable energy, no to renewable fuels. And today, we import triple the amount of oil as the day that Senator McCain took office.
Now is the time to end this addiction, and to understand that drilling is a stop-gap measure, not a long-term solution. Not even close.
As President, I will tap our natural gas reserves, invest in clean coal technology, and find ways to safely harness nuclear power. I’ll help our auto companies re-tool, so that the fuel-efficient cars of the future are built right here in America. I’ll make it easier for the American people to afford these new cars. And I’ll invest 150 billion dollars over the next decade in affordable, renewable sources of energy – wind power and solar power and the next generation of biofuels; an investment that will lead to new industries and five million new jobs that pay well and can’t ever be outsourced.
America, now is not the time for small plans.
Now is the time to finally meet our moral obligation to provide every child a world-class education, because it will take nothing less to compete in the global economy. Michelle and I are only here tonight because we were given a chance at an education. And I will not settle for an America where some kids don’t have that chance. I’ll invest in early childhood education. I’ll recruit an army of new teachers, and pay them higher salaries and give them more support. And in exchange, I’ll ask for higher standards and more accountability. And we will keep our promise to every young American – if you commit to serving your community or your country, we will make sure you can afford a college education.
Now is the time to finally keep the promise of affordable, accessible health care for every single American. If you have health care, my plan will lower your premiums. If you don’t, you’ll be able to get the same kind of coverage that members of Congress give themselves. And as someone who watched my mother argue with insurance companies while she lay in bed dying of cancer, I will make certain those companies stop discriminating against those who are sick and need care the most.
Now is the time to help families with paid sick days and better family leave, because nobody in America should have to choose between keeping their jobs and caring for a sick child or ailing parent.
Now is the time to change our bankruptcy laws, so that your pensions are protected ahead of CEO bonuses; and the time to protect Social Security for future generations.
And now is the time to keep the promise of equal pay for an equal day’s work, because I want my daughters to have exactly the same opportunities as your sons.
Now, many of these plans will cost money, which is why I’ve laid out how I’ll pay for every dime – by closing corporate loopholes and tax havens that don’t help America grow. But I will also go through the federal budget, line by line, eliminating programs that no longer work and making the ones we do need work better and cost less – because we cannot meet twenty-first century challenges with a twentieth century bureaucracy.
And Democrats, we must also admit that fulfilling America’s promise will require more than just money. It will require a renewed sense of responsibility from each of us to recover what John F. Kennedy called our “intellectual and moral strength.” Yes, government must lead on energy independence, but each of us must do our part to make our homes and businesses more efficient. Yes, we must provide more ladders to success for young men who fall into lives of crime and despair. But we must also admit that programs alone can’t replace parents; that government can’t turn off the television and make a child do her homework; that fathers must take more responsibility for providing the love and guidance their children need.
Individual responsibility and mutual responsibility – that’s the essence of America’s promise.
And just as we keep our keep our promise to the next generation here at home, so must we keep America’s promise abroad. If John McCain wants to have a debate about who has the temperament, and judgment, to serve as the next Commander-in-Chief, that’s a debate I’m ready to have.
For while Senator McCain was turning his sights to Iraq just days after 9/11, I stood up and opposed this war, knowing that it would distract us from the real threats we face. When John McCain said we could just “muddle through” in Afghanistan, I argued for more resources and more troops to finish the fight against the terrorists who actually attacked us on 9/11, and made clear that we must take out Osama bin Laden and his lieutenants if we have them in our sights. John McCain likes to say that he’ll follow bin Laden to the Gates of Hell – but he won’t even go to the cave where he lives.
And today, as my call for a time frame to remove our troops from Iraq has been echoed by the Iraqi government and even the Bush Administration, even after we learned that Iraq has a $79 billion surplus while we’re wallowing in deficits, John McCain stands alone in his stubborn refusal to end a misguided war.
That’s not the judgment we need. That won’t keep America safe. We need a President who can face the threats of the future, not keep grasping at the ideas of the past.
You don’t defeat a terrorist network that operates in eighty countries by occupying Iraq. You don’t protect Israel and deter Iran just by talking tough in Washington. You can’t truly stand up for Georgia when you’ve strained our oldest alliances. If John McCain wants to follow George Bush with more tough talk and bad strategy, that is his choice – but it is not the change we need.
We are the party of Roosevelt. We are the party of Kennedy. So don’t tell me that Democrats won’t defend this country. Don’t tell me that Democrats won’t keep us safe. The Bush-McCain foreign policy has squandered the legacy that generations of Americans -- Democrats and Republicans – have built, and we are here to restore that legacy.
As Commander-in-Chief, I will never hesitate to defend this nation, but I will only send our troops into harm’s way with a clear mission and a sacred commitment to give them the equipment they need in battle and the care and benefits they deserve when they come home.
I will end this war in Iraq responsibly, and finish the fight against al Qaeda and the Taliban in Afghanistan. I will rebuild our military to meet future conflicts. But I will also renew the tough, direct diplomacy that can prevent Iran from obtaining nuclear weapons and curb Russian aggression. I will build new partnerships to defeat the threats of the 21st century: terrorism and nuclear proliferation; poverty and genocide; climate change and disease. And I will restore our moral standing, so that America is once again that last, best hope for all who are called to the cause of freedom, who long for lives of peace, and who yearn for a better future.
These are the policies I will pursue. And in the weeks ahead, I look forward to debating them with John McCain.
But what I will not do is suggest that the Senator takes his positions for political purposes. Because one of the things that we have to change in our politics is the idea that people cannot disagree without challenging each other’s character and patriotism.
The times are too serious, the stakes are too high for this same partisan playbook. So let us agree that patriotism has no party. I love this country, and so do you, and so does John McCain. The men and women who serve in our battlefields may be Democrats and Republicans and Independents, but they have fought together and bled together and some died together under the same proud flag. They have not served a Red America or a Blue America – they have served the United States of America.
So I’ve got news for you, John McCain. We all put our country first.
America, our work will not be easy. The challenges we face require tough choices, and Democrats as well as Republicans will need to cast off the worn-out ideas and politics of the past. For part of what has been lost these past eight years can’t just be measured by lost wages or bigger trade deficits. What has also been lost is our sense of common purpose – our sense of higher purpose. And that’s what we have to restore.
We may not agree on abortion, but surely we can agree on reducing the number of unwanted pregnancies in this country. The reality of gun ownership may be different for hunters in rural Ohio than for those plagued by gang-violence in Cleveland, but don’t tell me we can’t uphold the Second Amendment while keeping AK-47s out of the hands of criminals. I know there are differences on same-sex marriage, but surely we can agree that our gay and lesbian brothers and sisters deserve to visit the person they love in the hospital and to live lives free of discrimination. Passions fly on immigration, but I don’t know anyone who benefits when a mother is separated from her infant child or an employer undercuts American wages by hiring illegal workers. This too is part of America’s promise – the promise of a democracy where we can find the strength and grace to bridge divides and unite in common effort.
I know there are those who dismiss such beliefs as happy talk. They claim that our insistence on something larger, something firmer and more honest in our public life is just a Trojan Horse for higher taxes and the abandonment of traditional values. And that’s to be expected. Because if you don’t have any fresh ideas, then you use stale tactics to scare the voters. If you don’t have a record to run on, then you paint your opponent as someone people should run from.
You make a big election about small things.
And you know what – it’s worked before. Because it feeds into the cynicism we all have about government. When Washington doesn’t work, all its promises seem empty. If your hopes have been dashed again and again, then it’s best to stop hoping, and settle for what you already know.
I get it. I realize that I am not the likeliest candidate for this office. I don’t fit the typical pedigree, and I haven’t spent my career in the halls of Washington.
But I stand before you tonight because all across America something is stirring. What the nay-sayers don’t understand is that this election has never been about me. It’s been about you.
For eighteen long months, you have stood up, one by one, and said enough to the politics of the past. You understand that in this election, the greatest risk we can take is to try the same old politics with the same old players and expect a different result. You have shown what history teaches us – that at defining moments like this one, the change we need doesn’t come from Washington. Change comes to Washington. Change happens because the American people demand it – because they rise up and insist on new ideas and new leadership, a new politics for a new time.
America, this is one of those moments.
I believe that as hard as it will be, the change we need is coming. Because I’ve seen it. Because I’ve lived it. I’ve seen it in Illinois, when we provided health care to more children and moved more families from welfare to work. I’ve seen it in Washington, when we worked across party lines to open up government and hold lobbyists more accountable, to give better care for our veterans and keep nuclear weapons out of terrorist hands.
And I’ve seen it in this campaign. In the young people who voted for the first time, and in those who got involved again after a very long time. In the Republicans who never thought they’d pick up a Democratic ballot, but did. I’ve seen it in the workers who would rather cut their hours back a day than see their friends lose their jobs, in the soldiers who re-enlist after losing a limb, in the good neighbors who take a stranger in when a hurricane strikes and the floodwaters rise.
This country of ours has more wealth than any nation, but that’s not what makes us rich. We have the most powerful military on Earth, but that’s not what makes us strong. Our universities and our culture are the envy of the world, but that’s not what keeps the world coming to our shores.
Instead, it is that American spirit – that American promise – that pushes us forward even when the path is uncertain; that binds us together in spite of our differences; that makes us fix our eye not on what is seen, but what is unseen, that better place around the bend.
That promise is our greatest inheritance. It’s a promise I make to my daughters when I tuck them in at night, and a promise that you make to yours – a promise that has led immigrants to cross oceans and pioneers to travel west; a promise that led workers to picket lines, and women to reach for the ballot.
And it is that promise that forty five years ago today, brought Americans from every corner of this land to stand together on a Mall in Washington, before Lincoln’s Memorial, and hear a young preacher from Georgia speak of his dream.
The men and women who gathered there could’ve heard many things. They could’ve heard words of anger and discord. They could’ve been told to succumb to the fear and frustration of so many dreams deferred.
But what the people heard instead – people of every creed and color, from every walk of life – is that in America, our destiny is inextricably linked. That together, our dreams can be one.
“We cannot walk alone,” the preacher cried. “And as we walk, we must make the pledge that we shall always march ahead. We cannot turn back.”
America, we cannot turn back. Not with so much work to be done. Not with so many children to educate, and so many veterans to care for. Not with an economy to fix and cities to rebuild and farms to save. Not with so many families to protect and so many lives to mend. America, we cannot turn back. We cannot walk alone. At this moment, in this election, we must pledge once more to march into the future. Let us keep that promise – that American promise – and in the words of Scripture hold firmly, without wavering, to the hope that we confess.

McCain Intollerant Of Other Religions - Video
This clip of McCain talking about his religion gives me the willies and it should scare anyone who sees it. What he espouses is about as un-American as any value I can imagine. He not only states his mistrust of any religion but his, a religion he seems confused about since one time claiming to be Episcopal and then denying it and claiming to be baptist, but he uses the blatant lie that America's founding fathers were all Christian. They were not, and in fact more were deists that any particular religion, but that doesn't matter to McCain. Watch the clip and be afraid.
McCain Looking More Frail - Health Concerns?
McCain seems like a decent enough man for a politician, but lately his speech has been frail and he has had trouble answering questions. More often he looks like a deer caught in the headlights. Is he on the verge of senility?

McCain Picks Pawlenty As VP?
Minnesota Governor Tim Pawlenty has canceled all his press appearances today and for the next few days. The move comes as speculation runs high that Pawlenty may be McCain's VP pick. Pawlenty has been on McCain's "short list" for a while.
Speculation is that McCain will announce his VP during Obama's speech to try to steal thunder from the Democratic Party's nominee.

Obama Officially The Democratic Party Nominee!
It's official, Obama was nominated by acclimation unanimously after a motion to suspend the rules by Hillary Clinton. The convention just erupted into a big party as they played "Love Train" over the PA system.
It is not only a historic moment for an African-American to be nominated for President, but to have the second place winner actually do the nominating was great! The show of unity was stirig and the crowd is so emotional it is palpable even through the television screen.

Roll Call Vote Going On Now
I am watching the roll call vote at the DNC. So far it's overwhelmingly for Obama and there have been no disturbances. The best part of the process is the wonderful state speeches that proceed the votes. Kansas just voted and said they were the proud capital of wind energy in the USA and the home state of Obama's mama!
Kentuky just cast 24 for Hillary and 36 for Barack Obama. I love this part of the convention because of the grass roots feel. More later.

She moves that the convention suspend the vote and count all votes, but select Obama by acclimation as the nominee. That's a brave thing for her to do, and she was surrounded by lots of cheering supporters.
Kentuky just cast 24 for Hillary and 36 for Barack Obama. I love this part of the convention because of the grass roots feel. More later.

Will McCain Pick Kay Bailey Hutchison For VP?
Want a nightmare scenario? How about Kay Bailey Hutchison as McCain's VP? The rumor mill has started cranking that one out and it sounds plausible. Hutchison, Senator from Texas, has been seen with McCain at several events recently and tongues are waging about her possible future on the ticket. A woman would be seen a pandering by some but there might be enough stir to at least pick up votes from a few brain dead folks.
Hutchison has a straight Bush voting record that really makes McCain look like a maverick, even thoug in the past year he has been 100% behind Bush. She is the senator from my district and no matter what I write her on I get a pre-printed reply that has little to do with my question. Hutchison is at the center of a small scandal in the Steven Payne ruckus. That might make her hard to vet, along with the many connections of her husband in the paving and infrastructure of Texas. Contracts etc. have always been suspect.
My hope is that her aspirations to be governor of Texas will outweigh any failed run for VP with McCain.

Gustav Churns Towards The Gulf Coast
Tropical Storm Gustav is spinning away from Haiti and into the warmer waters south of Cuba. According to the National Hurricane Center's projections it will re-strengthen into a Hurricane as it moves toward the Gulf of Mexico.
At present the projected track for the next 5 days shows Gustav moving into the gulf just south of Cuba and then turning slightly north. The projected path puts it on a collision course with New Orleans. If it follows the predictions, and a 5 day forecast on a hurricane is not very precise, it would make landfall within a couple of days of the anniversary of Hurricane Katrina. More ironic would be that President Bush is scheduled to speak at the Republican Convention that same day.
The potential for another disaster is increased by the fact that repairs to the levees in New Orleans are still in progress and they have not been strengthened sufficiently to withstand another catastrophic hurricane. I am hoping the people of New Orleans are fllowing the progress of Gustav and that State and Federal agencies will be able to aid if evacuation is needed.

Hillary Hits A Home Run For The Team!
Hillary Clinton got my attention last night when she gave a speech that was a wholehearted endorsement of Barack Obama or President. I had trepidations about what she might do, but in the end she became a party loyalist and saw that the real challenge to America right now is not her being elected, but McCain being defeated!
It is my hope that she effectively persuaded her supporters to throw their support behind the Democratic nominee and go on to vote Barack Obama into office this November. I suspect there will be a few who will still resist, but if they listen to reason they might realize that McCain will do them no favors. Flashback: Jon Stewart Takes On Crossfire
In anticipation of the Daily Show's coverage of the Democratic Convention, Huffington post noted that Stewart has admonished reporters to do a better job. He called the 24hour news channels "gerbil wheels".

McCain Uses "POW" Line Once Too Often
John McCain was a POW and don't you forget it! That seems to be the only thing the McCain camp has in the arsenal of political comebacks. Last night when Jay Leno asked McCain about his houses, the response was, "I spent 5 1/2 years in a prison cell without -- I didn't have a house. I didn't have a kitchen table. I didn't have a table. White Supremicists Implicated In Plot To Assassinate Barack Obama
Aurora Colorado police and the FBI have apparently uncovered a plot by a group of White Supremacists to assassinate Barack Obama. Two men were stopped in a routine traffic stop and drugs as well as rifles were discovered in their car. One rifle was a high powered sniper model.The men admitted under questioning that they were planning to shoot Obama during his acceptance speech. According to reports, two other companions were arrested when they fled police at their hotel in Denver. Both along with a girlfriend were arrested and detained on drug charges. The police and FBI will hold a news conference this afternoon.
I suppose it is to be expected that folks like these would have a problem with an African American president. I have to wonder if they are only the tip of an inbred trailer-park iceberg. I certainly hope the FBI and Secret Service will stay on their toes.

Dick Cheney Implicated In Ted Stevens Scandal
So close to the election it can't be good news for the White House that Dick Cheney is being implicated in the Ted Steven's ( Senator "Bridge To Nowhere" of Alaska) bribery and corruption trial. Seems Stevens promised an oil services executive that he would "talk to some big wigs" and get this done. Next thing you know, Cheney's office is pushing the bill through.

NCSF Website Gets Hacked!
Hackers, the malicious kind, really make me steam. I logged on to the National Coalition for Sexual Freedom's (www.ncsfreedom.org) website to find it a mess. Hackers have defaced it with thousands of keywords for Viagra and Cialis. I am guessing it's either a hack or virus designed to stear traffic to an illegal pharmacy site.
I checked with others and they see the same tning so it's not something local for me. Just a warning to anyone who has a web site, hackers can screw you up. Makes sense to keep on top of your site with regular checks and make sure your server is behind a good firewall.

Obama's Running Mate Is Joe Biden
My cell phone went off just a few seconds ago with the much anticipated news of the announcement of Obama's running mate for the 2008 Presidential election. His pick of Joe Biden had been widely touted as the choice by pundits leading up to the announcement, but nobody had the real scoop.
The Obama campaign has judiciously guarded the choice and promised supporters who signed up for a text message over their cell phones and PDAs would be the first to know. I suspect right now hundreds of bloggers are frantically typing similar words to mine.
Many people had wanted to see an Obama-Clinton ticket, but I fail to see how that could have worked. Their battle was so downright nasty in the final days of the primary I cannot imagine either of them being happy with that arrangement. Now it remains to be seen what will happen at the convention after Hillary's name is put into nomination. Hopefully the PUMAs will not cause a party split that would assure McCain of a win in November. We'll see!

Bush Administration Signs Iraq Pull Out Deal - Agrees To Lose In 2011
So according to the rhetoric of the right wing, Bush plans to lose the war in Iraq by 2011! That is if the deal Secretary of State Rice signed this week goes through. The "aspirational time horizon", (that's double-speak for timetable for withdrawal) was part of a new security agreement is far later than initially wanted by the Iraqi government.

New Study Says Gaydar Is Real.
I am reminded of the study that said that the pain and pleasure centers of the brain are located in the same area. The scientists made the conjecture that perhaps the new discovery was the reason people enjoyed SM. Duh!
Well in that same vein comes the startling news that "gaydar" is real. A Tufts University study showed people a series of photos and within less than a second they could judge whether they were straight or gay. The group of students scored 55% to 70% accuracy. The photos were evenly divided between straight and gay so chance would have been about 50%.
The students were both men and women, but there is no word on whether ny of the people making the judgements were gay themselves. That study would take consideribly longer for the decisiion making process allowing for the 10 minutes of "dishing" for each picture! (note to my straight readers, "dishing" is a gay thing, you wouldn't understand.)

Well sometimes a story make you able to sleep better at night. Such is the tale of the FDA inspectors allowing border agents to seize "penis rings".
The devices are sometimes sold as impotence cures, though there is little evidence they work for that purpose. Most are sold as sexual novelties and adult toys. The use of them, or at least some of them enhance the sexual experience for some men. If they are too tight they can cut off blood flow to the penis and if you are a blithering idiot, I suppose gangrene could set in.
So our government, in it's diligence has decided to seize these devices without inspection. (whatever that means)
This news should make domestic manufacturers of the sex toys delighted. One less cheap Chinese import to worry about. Meanwhile tainted toys, and poisoned food additives continue to flow unrestricted into our country until someone gets sick from the products. Way to go FDA!

This follows his assertion that Obama won the primary because it, "goes back to the fact that nobody had the guts to stand up and say no to a black guy".

Today, the Bush administration announced that Secretary of State, Condoleezza Rice had made an unannounced trip to Iraq and had come to an agreement with the Iraqi government on an "aspirational timetable" for US troop withdrawal.
Foreign Minister Hoshyar Zebaritried to parse the words more carefully. "This agreement determines the principle provisions, requirements, to regulate the temporary presence and the time horizon, the mission of the U.S. forces."

Is John McCain really ready for that 3:00am phone call? After watching him in countless press appearances where he seems confused, a bit slow to respond coherently and sometimes outright delusional, I think not. If I were to look at the kind of person I want answering that call, it would be someone with a level head, clear mental faculties and a good idea of how to handle a dangerous situation with calmness and tact.
Hillary's 3:00am Phone Call spot was intended to scare people and it worked. However it didn't convince anyone that she was the right person to answer the phone. Now I wonder if Obama should revive the spot? McCain, who graduated in the bottom 5th of his class at the US Naval Academy had a less than stellar history of military service. One of his flight instructors said McCain was, "...positively one of the weakest students to pass our way." As a senator he backed the disastrous Iraq war and has recently voted with the Bush administration almost 100% of the time.
Do we really want someone like that being on the phone when it's really important?

Congresswoman Stephanie Tubbs Jones Dies
The first black woman to represent Ohio in Congress, Congresswoman Stephanie Tubbs Jones, has died. She had served in the House since 1998 and had been chairwoman of the House Committee on Standards of Official Conduct.
Huron Hospital and Cleveland Clinic reported that the Congresswoman died from a brain hemorrhage. According to Associated Press reports, "Tubbs Jones, 58, suffered the hemorrhage while driving her car in Cleveland Heights on Tuesday". Her condition worsened during the following days until her death tonight around 6:12 pm Eastern.

From the moment I saw the alleged "bigfoot" that was frozen in a beer cooler, I knew exactly what it was. In his book "Blink", Malcolm Gladwell talks about thin-slicing. Basically, it is the ability to make a snap decision based on a very small set of data, yet having surprisingly accurate outcomes. Rice Clueless About Russian Anger Over US Missiles In Poland
Sometimes I have to wonder where Condoleezza Rice got her PhD? She is supposed to be an expert on Russia and yet she is going along with the Bush plan to put missiles in Poland. Now I know the Bushies are calling them defensive missiles, but to the Russians, they are missiles within easy striking distance of Russian cities and bases. Why is seeing that this is a needless provocation such a problem for Rice?
We are treating Russia like a bear in a cage. We keep poking sticks at the bear and then seem surprised when it growls and becomes agressive. The problem is the cage is essentially useless. The bear could rip his way out easily. The only thing keeping him there is his belief that the cage is strong. That illusion is shared by our government as well.
We neeed to understand that there is no cage, and the best way to get along with Russia is to continue communicating with them and stop trying to muscle them into submission. Putin is a despot, and he will respond to being shoved around with equal force. When did diplomacy become the last resort?

Rachel Maddow Lands MSNBC Host Role!
MSNBC is fast becoming my favorite source for political commentary and news. The have just confirmed that Rachel Maddow will be hosting the 9:00pm (Eastern) slot on the network. She will also continue her radio show on Air America, so it's a win-win for her and us.
No doubt there will be lots of clamor about her being too left wing, but my response is, "so what"?
After all there is a whole network of right wing propaganda called FOX, so a couple of progressive voices certainly couldn't hurt. Besides, Rachel has been known to skewer folks from both parties.

Condoleezza Rice - Mendacity and Hubris
I would use the word hubris to describe Condoleezza Rice's pronouncement that "Military power...is not the way to deal in the 21st century" , but I am afraid it's too mild. I tossed around "hypocrite", but that just seemed a bit stale. After all almost everything the Bush administration rails against the do. Remember "we don't torture"?
Finally I settled on the favorite word of the character Big Daddy in Tennessee William's Cat on a Hot Tin Roof, "mendacity". For the Secretary of State, of our country to denounce military action as a solution in the 21st Century is about as mendacious a statement as I can think of. It's just a plain bald faced lie.
I guess Ms. Rice forgot the whole Iraq thing, or Afghanistan, both of which were wars we started in the 21st Century. The Bush administration knows little about diplomacy that does not involve guns and bombs. The whole talking thing is just so 1900's!
Had we sought a diplomatic solution to Bush's problem with Sadaam. Iraq would still have a power grid and running water. We would have 4000+ American soldiers still at home and alive and thousands of Iraqi civilians would still enjoy the pleasures of going to work and raising their families without fear of sjuidide bombers and IEDs.
Oh yea, and then there is that guy, Osama Bin Laden. Maybe, just maybe we could have used our military to go after him had diplomacy not worked with the Taliban. We really never gave it a chance.
So now Ms. Rice condemns Russia for behaving like us. Invade first and ask questions later.

I guess Ms. Rice forgot the whole Iraq thing, or Afghanistan, both of which were wars we started in the 21st Century. The Bush administration knows little about diplomacy that does not involve guns and bombs. The whole talking thing is just so 1900's!
Had we sought a diplomatic solution to Bush's problem with Sadaam. Iraq would still have a power grid and running water. We would have 4000+ American soldiers still at home and alive and thousands of Iraqi civilians would still enjoy the pleasures of going to work and raising their families without fear of sjuidide bombers and IEDs.
Oh yea, and then there is that guy, Osama Bin Laden. Maybe, just maybe we could have used our military to go after him had diplomacy not worked with the Taliban. We really never gave it a chance.
So now Ms. Rice condemns Russia for behaving like us. Invade first and ask questions later.
I am reminded of the time that seems so liong ago when Bush said he had looked into Putin's soul and found a kindred spirit. Yup, he sure did!

China Still Exporting Lead Tainted Children's Items!
Even though the world is fixated on the Olympics, China continues to export tainted products for kids here in the USA. Here are a couple of the latest examples.
Faded Glory brand Lip Gloss - This set including lip gloss and a charm necklace is poisoned with unacceptably high levels of lead. Sold by , (who else) Wal-Mart 30,000 units were recalled by the Consumer Product Safety Commission. Here are the product and model numbers.
Additional products will undoubtedly show up. China has made a big effort to look good for the Olympics. Unfortunately it's all a facade. The country's greedy capitalists continue to use the cheapest materials and dodge regulations to export products that are hazardous to children's health. With Chinese goods, the key is all about looks, the quality is secondary and safety is not even a concern at all.
Well at least they have really talented 16 year old gymnasts that look maybe 12 at best. Must be something in the air.

McCain's Iraq Plan - Keep Spending $10 Billion A Month Forever
While trying to cast Obama as someone who would "want to lose in Iraq" McCain exposes his real Iraq strategy. It is very simple.
Spend $10 billion a month on an open-ended war.Responding to McCain's ridiculous, claims Obama made the following statement.
"All his bluster, distortions and negative attacks notwithstanding, it is hard to understand how Senator McCain can at once proclaim his support for the sovereign government of Iraq, and then stubbornly defy their expressed support for a timeline to remove our combat brigades from their country. The difference in this race is that John McCain is intent on spending $10 billion a month on an open-ended war, while Barack Obama thinks we should bring this war to a responsible end and invest in our pressing needs here at home."Considering that the Iraqi government even wants us to leave, where does that leave Mr. McCain? I count him as one of the hard-core neocons who find no problem with channeling billions to the defense industry while getting thousands of American troops killed. That would be treason in a sensible world.
McCain Fortunes Stem From Organized Crime
I always find it interesting where rich people got their wealth. In a few cases it is from legitimate sources and in a very few it's from the sweat of their own hands, but today most of them get it through family or marriage. A few even get it through illegal activities and organized crime.
Enter John McCain. According to an article in the World Net News Daily, "John McCain's personal fortune traces back to organized crime in Arizona, through his father-in-law."
What? Who would write such things? Well it's our friend Jerome Corsi, Mr. Swift Boat himself. James Hensley, McCains father-in-law was convicted of seven counts of filing false liquor records and conspiracy to hide the people involved in an organized crime racket in Arizona. Nice folks!
It's not just Corsi who reports this, the cases are even highlighhted in an episode on the HIstory Channel in a documentary, "Rum Runners & Prohibition".
Now I don't put a lot of trust in Corsi, but his sources on this check out and I find it funny that a staunch neocon front man like Corsi is exposing his party's own guy. Guess McCain is not the darling of the right anymore?
