McCain And The Green Screen

Last night's acceptance speech by John McCain took place in front of a picture of what looked like a mansion. Hardly the image I would have thought appropriate for a man who has recently been under scrutiny for having more houses than he can count.

The problem was that close ups of McCain put him in the "green screen" dilemma he faced previously. Green is not a good background color. It makes you look pale and sallow, something McCain already has a problem with. Additionally it gives lots of fodder to the YouTube generation who will undoubtedly take that footage and insert any number of pictures in the green area using digital technology.

Apparently what the campaign wanted was a photo of Walter Reed Medical Center behind him, but because of some pretty poor research they put a shot of Walter Reed Middle School in North Hollywood, California in its place. Strange message and even stranger because that part of California is decidedly Democratic.

So as Sarah Palin retreats to Alaska to bone up on what a VP's job is, McCain will have to suffer through another "green screen challenge" and lots of ribbing for the obvious gaff.
