I am not much of a maven of pop culture, but the recent craze of “Sweded” movies really resonates with me. “Sweding” comes from the quirky movie “Be Kind Rewind” with Jack Black. In it his character becomes magnetized and becomes a human death star for video tapes. When he wipes out a friends video store, they begin making their own versions of the classics with whatever they can beg borrow of steal.
The whole Sweding thing has taken on a life of its own and now people are actually doing it on YouTube with hilarious results. These budding Swedes distill the essence of a classic movie into a few minutes of home grown video. There is even a contest tied to the movie “Be Kind Rewind”. Here is one of the entrants efforts. As a Star Wars fan I got a real kick out of this one.
