Anti-Mosque Rally Shows Really Ugly Americans

If I hadn't seen the footage for myself I wouldn't have believed it.  In New York City, perhaps the most diverse city in the country a rally of people protesting the building of the Cordoba Center on the site of an old Burlington Coat Factory store.  The center will include a prayer room and an Islamic cultural center.  It is being called a mosque by opponents and for some reason is supposed to be a travesty to the memory of 9/11 victims.

Aside from the fact that it's just a commercial street two city blocks from Ground Zero, the real reason for the protest is political.  It had been drummed up by the right wing as a way to get momentum in what is an increasingly split party.  The GOP through it's surrogates such as Fox News (a huge contributor to the Republican Party) have made the construction an issue.

Now all that whipped up emotion is bubbling to the surface in very ugly ways.  The "demonstration" was about as blatant display of bigotry and intolerance as I have seen since the 1960's.  The crowd almost attacks a black man who walks through because they think he is Muslim.  His crime?  Wearing a strange looking hat.

Watch this and then tell me why this kind of crap is justified.

If this is the America that the GOP and the "Tea Baggers" envision, I want no part of it.
