A New Dimension InTime?

Those who have followed my reading know I have a deep interest in particle physics and cosmology. Now do I understand it? Not so much as I would like to, but still emerging theories are fascinating to me.

The latest to join "String" and "M Theory" involves an extra dimension in time. Extra dimensions are nothing new in physics. Most of the emerging theories utilize several extra dimensions to tie everything together but until recently none has added a dimension of time.

The latest comes from work done by Itzhak Bars of the University of Southern California in LA. Shorthand for the theory would look like this 4+2. Four dimensions of space plus two dimensions of time.

If Bars' theory is confirmed, it could point the way to a "theory of everything" that ties together general relativity and quantum mechanics, gravity....well everything!

The Large Hadron Collider at CERN is going to be testing the theory in comming months and the results of those experiements may point the way to a whole new realm of physics. If you want a brief explanation of the work, look here, but be warned it might give you a headache. T-2 Physics is mind boggling for us mere mortals.
