Egypt Convicts 5 Men Of Homosexuality

Add Egypt to the list of countries I will never set foot in. There a court recently sentenced 5 men to prison for “habitual debauchery” the Egyptian euphemism for homosexuality. Though a lot more lenient than some Middle-Eastern countries, Egypt still has a legal system that is steeped in the middle ages.

Four of the five were arrested when they were forced to undergo blood tests for HIV. They tested positive.

According to a report in the New York Times,

Ramadan, a lawyer with the Egyptian Initiative for Personal Rights, said the five men were abused and tortured over the past several months to ''extract confessions'' from them.

Time for Egypt to shake off the sand and join the 21st century!
