Gay Bashing Increasing in NYC, too!

I am not sure if the statistics bear this out, but anecdotal it seems that the number of gay bashing s has been on the increase in Dallas.  Now after three separate cases in NYC, one at Stonewall Inn and two more at other local gay bars,  it looks like it might be a nationwide trend.  I have to believe this is due to the increased rhetoric from politicians and talk shows who during an election cycle use LGBT rights as a punching bag. Again, the level of crazt talk has gotten out of hand and I suspect it is having real-world effects.

More reason than ever for the Rally to Restore Sanity.

Hello,

This is Richard H. in Fort Worth, Texas, USA.

Regarding these horrible recent events, I just got an email from Rev. Michael Piazza of Cathedral of Hope in Dallas Texas:

Rev. Piazza to Address Dallas City Council
President of H4PJ to present anti-bullying petition

During the last two weeks, Hope for Peace & Justice has been busy collecting signatures on a petition requesting that the Dallas City Council and the Dallas Independent School District do all that is within their power to prevent bullying in our schools and protect children and youth, regardless of their sexual orientation.

Tomorrow, Wednesday, October 20, Rev. Michael Piazza, President of Hope for Peace & Justice, will present nearly 1,000 of your signatures at the weekly meeting of the Dallas City Council.

You are invited to join Rev. Piazza for this open meeting. He is scheduled to speak shortly after 9 a.m. Dallas City Hall is located at 1500 Marilla St.; Dallas, TX 75201, and the council meets in room 6ES.

As you may know, a grassroots movement now known as “Spirit Day” is encouraging people to wear the color purple to honor the memory of the teens who took their own lives as a result of bullying. (In the rainbow pride flag, purple represents spirit.)

Whether or not you are able to attend the meeting with Rev. Piazza, we encourage you to wear purple tomorrow and to let the spirit of the day energize us all to volunteer, write letters, post facebook rants, and come out. We must use the energy of our life to change things.

If you have not had a chance to sign the petition, please visit www.h4pj.org and add your voice to the hundreds of others calling for the world to change.
