21.7 Million Pounds of Beef Recalled!

Love deregulation? Then you will love this. 21.7 million pounds of ground beef are being recalled because of E-coli contamination. For the lucky “free-trade” American consumer it’s a non-stop parade of poisoned toys and food lately. The ground beef in question has been linked to 25 cases of the illness and was distributed in Connecticut, Florida, Indiana, Maine, New Jersey, New York and Pennsylvania.

This is stuff produced by Topps Meat Company here in the United States and meat that had passed the USDA testing, allegedly. So, check your meat and don’t trust anything anymore. Gosh I love the free market!

Catching up on my web perusing finally and thought better late than never...

I am enrolled in a Sanitation and Safety class at El Centro College. We discussed this recall in detail while in class on Tuesday.

In 60-something years of production (I think that was the time length), Topps had never had a single issue. The entire class agreed that this one recall was one too many.

We also noted that of the 8 or so different news stories and notices we read (including the recall notice from the Topps company), none included the proper handling and cooking procedures that could help reduce the chances of being infected by the E. coli toxin if you were to eat contaminated meat.

I guess big business and the press don't really care to save lives...just report about it when we are all sick and dying.
