Boy Dies For Lack Of Health Insurance

Here are the rules: If you have money you get to live and if you don’t you die.

Sound alarmist? You betcha! Here is proof just how uncivilized we are in this country and why we need universal health care.

A 12 year old boy in DC, died from a toothache that spread an infection to his brain. Why? Because his mother could not find a dentist to see him without health insurance.

This has to stop. The insurance companies are running our country and we must take it back. Every other major industrialized country in the world has universal coverage. We have some of the worst and most expensive health care in the world and yet the hospitals and insurance companies continue to tell us otherwise. Time to stop this has long past. This is the stuff of revolutions, and we had better address it soon before more people die for lack of insurance.

Sorry, the bottom line is the mother is at fault. If her son had died because of a broken arm or leg, or any other injury, we wouldn't be talking about this, but because its a dental problem we let her off the hook. I agree there are huge problems with insurance companies, Doctors, etc. But the bottom line is there are emergency rooms and by law, they can't turn you away, just ask all the illegal aliens that use this service daily. When are we going to quite blaming everyone but the parents?

If you read the article in the Washington Post that this post links to, you will see that she could not fnid a dentist who would take her appointment. Remember the problem was his tooth...

By the time she got him to the emergency room he was dying already. The point is not what happened in the emergency, but the fact that she couldn't get dental care for her son. Emergency rooms don't do routine dental care last time I checked.
