During the 2004 elections I was telling my friends that Dick Cheney was just holding the place until the GOP could seat a successor to Bush. That successor seems to be either Condi Rice or John McCain. Rice has been spun before the press in recent months in a variety of high profile stories showing her tact and capabilities internationally. At least that is the spin. What will happen now is that Dick Cheney will step down because of "health reasons" and Rice will be placed as Vice President by Bush. This sets things up nicely for 2008, with a viable incumbent VP and McCain in the wings.
McCain’s recent love-fest with Bush shows he has accepted their backroom deal and he will either be the Presidential or Vice Presidential nominee. This also lets the GOP deflect the blame for the scandal over Valerie Plame off on Cheney while leaving Bush and Rice relatively clean. At least that is the GOP spin-doctors view.
For me, it’s just business as usual for the GOP and the neo-cons. They will not let go of power unless forced to do so. They are intent on having a one party country and modeling us on the system that ruled Mexico for so long. One party, with ordained successors instead of real candidates. A defacto dictator instead of a President. That is utopia to the GOP. Don’t believe me, read the project for a New American Century website and mull it over.
These guys are beyond scary, and if they are not deposed in November, we can kiss democracy goodbye.
