Insurance Company Gets Justice - Fined $10 Million For Revoking HIV+ Teens Insurance

It's about time we took a good long look at the health insurance companies in this country. I guess the South Carolina Supreme Court feels the same way. Today they ordered Assurant (formerly called Fortis) to pay $10 million for revoking the insurance policy of a 17-year-old college student after he tested positive for HIV.

This kind of behavior goes on all the time in the insurance world and it's high time it stopped. Health insurance companies are blood suckers who prey on healthy Americans and deny coverage to those who are sick. Pretty sweet business huh?

Imagine opening a casino where the only bets you could make were "long shots". That's the kind of odds these guys want. If there is a remote chance you are going to ever get sick, they will turn you down and if you do get sick while insured they will try every trick in the book to deny coverage.

Next time you hear one of those talk show liars saying we have the best health care system in the world, send them to this story and let them backpedal their way out of it. We need national health care NOW!
